Cargill commemorates 30 years in Vietnam through its ongoing commitment to education

As part of the celebration to mark Cargill’s 30th birthday in Vietnam, the company today announced the inauguration of four new Cargill Cares schools. Almost 400 students will benefit from the enhanced educational facilities which are in some of Vietnam’s disadvantaged Northern regions.
Cargill – which entered Vietnam in 1995 – made a commitment to the country to open 100 schools within 25 years, and doubled that effort more recently, setting a new target of 150 schools by 2030. Today’s announcement brings the total to 121 schools as of date, benefiting over 18,000 students annually across 57 provinces nationwide.
“Celebrating 30 years in Vietnam is not just about reflecting on the past, but about building a stronger future,” said Luan Nguyen, Country President of Cargill in Vietnam. “Through initiatives like Cargill Cares school building program, we are investing in the next generation, helping communities thrive, and nourishing the world in a safe, responsible, and sustainable way.”
“Cargill’s commitment to Vietnam through this program honors the enduring trust we have built with the local communities. These efforts reaffirm Cargill’s contribution to education, development, and sustainable growth in Vietnam.”
The new schools inaugurated this year include:
- Dan Chu Kindergarten (No. 118) in Quang Trung Commune, Hung Ha District, Thai Binh Province, was inaugurated on February 22. Built with a total investment of 1.6 billion VND, the school includes two classrooms and two restrooms, serving 80 students.
- Tua Thang 2 Kindergarten (No. 119) in Tua Thang Commune, Tua Chua District, Dien Bien Province, was inaugurated on March 15. With three classrooms and two restrooms, this 1.8 billion VND project now serves 100 students.
- Xuan Ai Kindergarten (No. 120) in Xuan Ai Commune, Van Yen District, Yen Bai Province, was inaugurated on April 24. Constructed with an investment of 2.1 billion VND, the school includes four classrooms and two restrooms, supporting 120 students.
- Ta Cu Ty Kindergarten (No. 121) in Ta Cu Ty Commune, Bac Ha District, Lao Cai Province, was inaugurated on April 25, just a few days before the nation’s big celebration. The 1.6 billion VND facility is equipped with two classrooms, a boarding room for teachers, a kitchen, and two restrooms, accommodating 80 students.
Together, these new projects represent a total investment of 7.1 billion VND, bringing modern, safe, and inclusive learning environments to nearly 400 children in underserved communities. Beyond building infrastructure, these schools reflect Cargill’s value of Putting People First.
Building on this momentum, Cargill is advancing construction of four additional projects, from No. 122 to No. 125, scheduled for completion later this year in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Khanh Hoa, and Gia Lai. These projects stand as a testament to Cargill’s continued investment in education and its enduring commitment to the communities it serves across Vietnam.
“Marking three decades in Vietnam is a proud moment for all of us at Cargill,” added Luan Nguyen. “Our journey here has always been about more than business. It has been about building trust, sharing growth, and making a lasting difference in people’s lives. We are honored to continue standing alongside farmers, customers and communities as we work toward a more sustainable and prosperous future.” Since the launch of the Cargill Cares school building program in 1996, the company has invested more than US$6 million into the construction of these 121 schools and 36 school libraries, benefiting hundreds of thousands of students. Looking ahead, Cargill will continue investing in education as a powerful driver of community resilience, youth empowerment, and Vietnam’s long-term development.
